Hey, everyone! Well, here we go. Never thought that I would be posting to my first blog, and certainly never imagined that it would be about this!
My name is Mike, and I am a proud first-time father of an incredibly awesome 2-year-old girl living in metro Atlanta. Time flies as it seems like we brought her home from the hospital only a few months ago, but here we are celebrating her second birthday. As is the case for many first-time parents, my wife and I have started doing research on everything from baby bottles to diapers and formula to strollers and toddler car seats. All I can say is, “Holy geez!” (Those aren’t the first words that came to mind, but I would like to keep this blog G-rated) It’s completely overwhelming, to say the least, and in many cases, you just end up picking a product with some decent reviews and that’s within your budget. Truth be told though, I am still useless when it comes to these purchases as Sarah, my wife does significantly more research and is the final decision maker, for which I am eternally grateful.
While product websites and online sales channel are informative and helpful, I realize that we rely much more on friends and blogs. There’s just something about getting the information from parents and those who know us on a personal level that adds a layer of comfort. So, I started searching and reading up on blogs and noticed that there weren’t as many daddy blogs out there. This makes sense for many reasons, but coming from a family where both parents work full-time, there are more and more days that these purchase decisions are being left to me. I wondered if it made sense to start blogging about my experiences to share with others, especially dads in similar positions.
I’ll tell you what sealed the deal for me. A few weekends ago, we were shopping for a new car seat, and as I stood in the middle of the aisle fumbling with the belts and adjustments, a kind father of three leaned in and showed me what I was doing incorrectly. Embarrassed, I thanked him for his help, and we started chatting and before I knew it, we spent the next 20 minutes going over everything from the best diaper deals to childproofing your home. As we parted, I thanked him again for all his advice, to which he chuckled and replied, “Hey, Daddy knows best!”
Hmmmm…. Daddy knows best? We’ll see about that.
